SSG Advisors is accepting applications from qualified Public-Private Partnership Advisor applicants for an anticipated USAID-funded project in the Southern Africa region.
The anticipated USAID funded project seeks to increase global competitiveness and intra-regional trade, as well as improve food security in Southern Africa (defined by USAID as Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe). The project aims to achieve these goals through the facilitation of domestic, regional and international financing and investment in the areas of agriculture and technology transfer. The project will also focus on increasing mutually beneficial linkages between the Southern Africa region and the United States through such means as U.S. exports, investments, joint ventures, partnerships, and distribution agreements.
Key Responsibilities
The PPP Advisor will work with the SSG team and other project staff to engage with national, regional, and international agribusiness, finance and technology partners in pursuit of projects development goals. S/he will provide technical expertise on public-private partnership issues, such as the development of strategies for outreach to the private sector and structuring investment and market-oriented partnerships within agriculture value chains. Also, s/he will represent SSG Advisors on public-private sector issues at technical, policy, and strategic planning meetings, including meetings with collaborators and donors.
The PPP Advisor will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:
Identify, assess, and recommend potential private sector partners and partnership opportunities with a particular focus on increasing regional competitiveness and regional and international trade, agribusiness and technology;
Work with the SSG Team and other project staff to design partnerships that support investment in the agriculture and agribusiness sectors, with a focus on seeds, other agricultural inputs, and food staples;
Provide technical leadership for the design, formalization, and management of innovative public-private partnerships;
Provide technical assistance to project stakeholders relative to the structuring of public-private partnerships and outreach to the private sector;
Maintain a database of public-private partnership activities;
Coordinate with other donors, local organizations and Southern African region government structures to ensure harmonization of public-private partnership activities; and
Develop and implement outreach strategies to the private sector.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications
Degree in business administration, economics, finance, or another relevant discipline from an accredited university, with preference for candidates possessing a Master's degree or higher;
At least 7 years of experience in the Southern Africa region, preferably in the investment, finance or agribusiness areas;
A proven ability to identify high-value partnerships with private and public sector stakeholders and to leverage private investment towards addressing public needs;
A proven ability to work collaboratively with and lead negotiations and reach a consensus among several private and public sector stakeholders;
Ability to work independently and effectively within tight deadlines;
