Brief Job Description
DAI seeks a Director of Strategic Communications for the anticipated Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub (SATIH) project, a five-year trade facilitation project for Southern Africa. The anticipated project is expected to increase global competitiveness and intra-regional trade and improve food security in Southern Africa. Anticipated project activities include efforts to support national and regional bodies to facilitate intra-regional trade of agricultural commodities and economic integration, facilitate improved private sector competitiveness in key value chains, and expand trade through utilization of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the key communications point of contact and resource for the USAID-funded Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub;
Deliver targeted assistance to governments, the private sector, and civil society organizations to realize the advantages of greater regional and global trade linkages and export-oriented business development;
Serve as managing editor of the monthly publication 'Hub Happenings' that keeps a readership of more than 7,000 regional stakeholders informed of the Trade Hub's efforts to facilitate trade, investment, and economic growth in Southern Africa;
Represent the program's communications interests at meetings with stakeholders, including government partners, USAID, and other agencies;
Manage public outreach efforts and media interactions at high-profile events to ensure positive visibility and attention to U.S. government protocol requirements;
Lead the communications team in the timely production of high-quality success stories, fact sheets, brochures, country profiles, event briefers, and contractual reports, ensuring that all products conform to USAID branding and marking requirements; and
Produce targeted media materials including short films, interviews, radio clips, and video/audio clips and an active social media presence to promote the work of the Trade Hub to a wide and informed audience.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
At least 5 years of work experience in a related field;
Proven experience contributing to the design and implementation of a (local or national) government strategic communication strategy;
Graduate degree in a relevant discipline such as public relations, mass communications, public policy, or journalism.
Strong ability and desire to work collaboratively with governmental bodies in Southern Africa, international donors, local partners, and the private sector;
Demonstrated interest in building capacity of local partners; and
Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
