Overall Duties And Responsibilities
The Information Technology Technician leads and coordinates information, technology support, and related activities. He or she provides initial training, and is the first line support for all MSH South Africa computer users and IT systems. The Information Services Technician keeps the inventory of all equipment, maintains network documentation, and provides desktop support.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Senior IT Specialist in the management and maintenance of networks; including, but not limited to, adding new users and assigning user and supervisor rights; managing printers and their connections to the network; and working with contractors to maintain network hardware as required
A resource for IT activities within the MSH project offices in South Africa, and act as primary liaison with the IS department staff in Arlington and in Medford.
Install and configure the network components (voice and data), establish security, provide network and Internet access rights, and ensure Internet functionality.
Manage user training and orientation about IT systems and standard software. This may include providing one-on-one training, organizing group training sessions, and bringing in external training resources to satisfy more comprehensive training requirements.
Provide first line support for all desktop/laptop systems users related to all software, hardware, and communications issues. Serve as network administrator for network systems.
Coordinate all work related to the preparation and installation of procured equipment, maintenance, repair and support of IT equipment and services with local suppliers.
Ensure that all networked workstations and laptop computers have up-to-date anti-virus definitions and software updates.
Keep an inventory of all equipment and maintain network documentation.
Configure new and existing hardware for optimal use on the project's network, remote access systems and the Internet, and maintain up-to-date files and documentation.
Assist in developing an annual procurement plan and budget to replace outdated equipment or to respond to new requirements.
Coordinate with MSH IT management in Arlington and in Medford to ensure that the office network is configured and maintained within the parameters established by the IT Support policy.
Provide IT support for visiting MSH staff/consultants and configuring their computers to access network resources including printers, email, and the Internet.
Provide technical support for database application design and implementation on PC and Palm pilot platforms whenever feasible.
Ensure network backup software is configured and all user data is regularly backed up to secure off site facilities
Perform, verify and test data backup and other disaster recovery procedures to minimize loss of data.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills And Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a combination of relevant education and experience.
A+ or Network+ certification preferred.
Cisco CCNA certification preferred.
MCSE or MCITP certification an advantage
ITIL Foundations vs 3 an advantage
SKILLS:
Extensive experience with network technologies, including local-area network (LAN) protocols, wide-area network (WAN) protocols, IP routing, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, TFTP, and WINS.
Extensive experience with desktop support, desktop computers and laptops. Configure, setup, maintain and troubleshoot desktop related issues.
Significant experience with server technologies, including MS Windows based, VM Ware and server operating systems – MS Windows Server 2003, MS Windows Server 2008/R2, MS Windows Server 2012.
Ability to configure and maintain WSUS for the security updates and patch management.
Extensive knowledge of Antivirus Systems such as Kaspersky or any other Antivirus System.
Very good understanding of Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail Offline) will be an advantage
In-depth experience in troubleshooting/isolating Windows, Cloud Services (Google Apps, Central Desktop, Citrix).
Significant experience with network hardware, including, firewalls, web filters, routers, network switches, hubs, and wireless access points.
High degree of computer literacy, proficiency in IT infrastructure configuration, and demonstrated advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite 2010 applications required.
A good knowledge of other commercial database applications, including SQL, and inventory control.
Experience supporting accounting packages helpful (QuickBooks 2014)

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently.
Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, communication skills, strong organizational skills, ability to work in a team-oriented environment, and ability to identify and resolve policy and operational constraints.
Fluency in English, including speaking, reading, and writing, with the ability to conduct business in English.
Willingness and ability to travel within South Africa and internationally, as needed.
