BRIEF POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Global Skill on behalf of a client who is based in Mwanza is looking for a farm manager with the following qualifications:
i)Bachelor of Science in Agriculture having majored in horticulture
ii)5-8 years of progressive experience.
iii)Technical and practical competence in horticulture.
iv)Not more than forty years of age
v)Can live in remote areas
Duties and Responsibilities:
i)The farm managers will be responsible for planning, organizing and managing the activities of a farm. Specific tasks may vary depending on the type of farm but in general include:
ii)Planning finances and production to maintain farm progress against budget parameters;
iii)Perform practical activities, e.g. driving tractors, operating machinery, spraying fields, etc;
iv)Marketing the farm's products;
v)Buying supplies, such as fertiliser and seeds;
vi)Make timely arrangement for the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment;
vii)Training and mentoring staff.
viii)Maintaining and monitoring the quality of yield.
ix)Understanding the implications of the weather and making contingency plans;
x)Making sure that products are ready for deadlines, such as auctions and markets;
xi)Ensuring that farm activities comply with government regulations;
xii)Knowledgeable about pests and diseases and how to treat them;
xiii)Applying health and safety standards across the farm estate;
xiv)Protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity;
xv)Keeping financial records up to date.
